Pattern

The PATTERN project was created in support of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. It came to life through a collaborative effort involving the Excello team, the Almaty Akimat, and the Almaty Police Department.

Women often hesitate to share their experiences, even with those they trust the most. To liberate society from the grip of violence, it's essential to shatter the cycle – break the pattern.

Together with digital artist Kasen, we created an animated video that reflects the fixation – a cold, black-and-white maze of lines trapped in walls with no way out.

This is how victims of violence feel. And to free them, we need to break the cycle – break the pattern.

             the
PATTERN

Our project partner Excello displayed a 45-second abstract video at the bustling heart of Almaty, on a high-traffic crossroad. This video represents the emotional state experienced by women caught in the vortex of cruelty.

In the animation, we observe the story of the symbolic circle as an object subjected to two pattern models. The light dims. External pressure forces the circle to shrink to the size of a small dot. But there is a way to break the pattern. A new one can be created by changing its element.

Patterns change when we do not accept the status quo and find the strength to find a way to live a life free of violence and abuse.

Recognize violence, whatever it may be. Acknowledge that it is not the norm. Find the bravery and strength to change. There is a way out – don't be afraid to open the door.
